“Transitions.  The play was written with scene changes from Veronica’s apartment, to Ralph and Victoria’s apartment to Julio’s apartment and back through them again.  We opted to not make the production realistic and go for a more actor-driven ensemble piece.  In many ways, the locations of the play are keyed to character -- Ralph is an accumulator of things, he wants stuff.  The TV is mentioned as something that Victoria did not want and Ralph bought anyway--it’s 58” TV--so we felt that presence was more important to Victoria and Ralph and for us to understand them than trying to explain a Hell’s Kitchen apartment to someone who is not in New York.  Julio likes to cook, he has a plant....to perhaps remind him of Puerto Rico or just that he has some light up there in Washington Heights.  And Veronica...not much, very little except--a shower, booze and drugs--she’s so wrapped up in her addiction, there really isn’t much there.”
